Meanwhile Mark begins searching for new projects,
Ade leaves U2 Tribute band ‘Unforgettable Fire!’
Mark began forming a new band, this time covering classic rock tracksfrom Marillion, Keane and David Bowie. A change in direction and yet again this folded. Mark decided to put bands on hold, and continued to set up his multi media company, writing corporate music for promotional films.Talks began with Final Conflict about a possible guest appearence for the 20th Anniversary CD release., “Simple”.
In February Mark started to form a new band called Drama, recruiting Arny Wheatley on Drums, Mike on guitar and Dave Bridgett on Bass. Recording began for a debut album, the name of the band was Drama, and the CD was ‘Confidential Whispers’, restarting where Framework had left. Only a few promo copies were released, plus a promo video, a few made it into Europe, the album was never released proper , due to the timing of personal circumstances.
A single was also released. The band later faded away..Mike left first and so on.
In June – Echo Base recruited Mark Bossons, and the band completely changed, Mark (Price) felt that his style and personality did not fit anymore, and wanted to return to a progressive rock genre. The name Echo Base was decided not to be used if Mark or Phil were not in the line up, thus the birth of Umbrella Sun.
The band decide to edge towards a more fuller band, instead of the Tangerine Dream meets Chemical Brothers approach, they decide to recruit a drummer and guitarist and have a more rock sound. Mike on guitars and Arny (Wheatley) on drums, this did not work out, this resorted back to the synth orientated Echo Base.
Echo Base release their second album CD, ‘Enough is Enough’, a track is taken from the album, ‘Touch’, and is released as a single – remixed in several versions including a different name for the band Colonial Movers. The track was played in various clubs, including The Globe in Hanley. The band played at The Full Moon in Newcastle supporting Grace, opening with ‘Sea Dog’ to a wash of dry ice and impressive lighting.
Mark forms Echo Base with Phil Heeks, they release their first CD ‘See you next Wednesday’, plus a single ‘Empathy Strikes Back’, this features in The Sentinel newspaper. They support Grace at The Riddles Bar in Stoke.
Mark leaves Grace, final gig at The Kings Hall Stoke, to save the Wheatsheaf. Grace decide to split after it is also announced that Dave Edge is leaving. Six months later Grace reform, with Dave Rushton’s son Adam on Guitar and Dave Markham on Keyboards (x Proxy Music)
Grace play Holland in February Mark announces that he will be leaving Grace at the end of the year, a live gig was recorded at The Wheatsheaf in December. This was released as a double CD ‘Gathering in the Wheat’ and is still regarded as one of the classic line ups
Grace release of Poppy CD. They play the Classic Rock Society, and are featured in the end of year poll results, Mark came 8th best keyboard player. The band begin talks with the Yes management team, with a view to Steve Howe taking us under his wing, this eventually falls through, as the Yes machine was beginning to start moving again. It was also at this time Grace formed a Roxy Music tribute band called Proxy Music, recruiting Dave Markham on support keyboards.
Grace release Delilah CD single, an anthem for Stoke City FC, they also appear on Granada TV. Grace record for the BBC with a track a night being played on the radio. The band put this out as the Cassette release ‘A Poultry Lapse of Reason’
Grace release their first CD album featuring Mark Price on keyboards, ‘Pulling Strings and Shiny Things’. A review was featured in, The Record Collector and Kerrang.
Framework support Grace. Ade later leaves Framework to study music. The only original member remaining is Bob Harvey. Months later Framework finally split.
In January Mark leaves Framework and joins Grace, first tracks to be written were, ‘Architects of War’ and ‘Hanging Rock’, the band went into the studio to start working on the next album, and signed a deal with CYCLOPS (GFT) but still managing to play live dates, including playing with Pallas, The Morrigan, Jadis, The Strawbs, The Crazy World of Auther Brown and so on.Mark had three weeks to learn the set before playing in front of a enthusiastic crowd at the RED HOUSE in Wiltshire and then on homeground at The WHEATSHEAF
Framework, their year starts well, they play many gigs leading up to the Progressive rock festival in Stoke, with Pendragon, Galahad, Grace and Big Big Train. They also have a new vocalist Ade Peddie, work begins on their second album, which unfortunately was never completed.
Framework record and release their debut CD, “Picture Glass Theatre”, playing over 100 gigs across the UK, building a strong loyal following. The CD is now deleted.
Final Conflict release ‘Redress The Balance’, a track was included in the Kerrang magazine.
Final Conflict change management. Mark leaves to form a synth band with Phil Heeks called The Mood, then later rejoining Arny Wheatley, to form Framework.
Framework – Mark One – Features, Mark Price (Keyboards), Arny Wheatley (Drums), Bob Harvey (Bass), Steve Jones (Vocals), Rob Bailey (Guitar).
Final Conflict release a double Asided 7″ single ‘My England/Across The Room’, complete with limited edition picture cover.
Final Conflict play across the UK, playing with bands like Ark and Embersea they also play a special gig in Knutton, to a sell out crowd. They record a video of ‘The Time Has Arrived’, featuring the 1 hour concept. The video was never edited and still remains unreleased. The band are signed up by a new management deal enabling them to go back into the studio.
Final Conflict record and release their second cassette album ‘The Time Has Arrived’, this release goes global, reaching Argentina. The album comes complete with a story booklet.
They record their debut cassette album Channel 8′, complete with booklet. Live they have computer graphics played on various TELEVISION SCREENS dotted around the stage. The graphics were produced on a MSX (64bit computer), by Adrian Heeks (Phil Heeks brother).
Marks Dad Melvin takes control of the mixing desk and mixes the band for the next four years.
Final Conflict sack their manager.
Mark, Andy Lawton and Brian Donkin form Final Conflict, later recruiting Tony Moore on bass. Their previous band Executioner is dissolved, although they did record a three track demo with a track being included on the Potteries Compilation Album, “Fly To The Rainbow”. Anton Hemmings did not join Final Conflict.
Ovation evolves into Tomorrows Dream (Badman or Edition etc) Playing the Highwayman and Bridge Street Arts Centre, and The Sutherland Arms (Newcastle-now demolished).
Mark joins Rivendell, writing some classic tracks, where some elements were later used in ten years time with Grace. The band splits and Mark takes with him the drummer Anton Hemmings to join Ovation.
Mark Leaves Brain (Willies Wife) to join Rivendell
Mark joins various school bands, playing piano, organ or synthesizer.
Mark joins Brain, a band heavily influenced by two albums, ASIA ‘Asia’ and Yes ‘Drama’. They play a one off gig supporting Ovation at the The CYC, covering various tracks from The Police, The Who, Rush, Queen, Cream, The Beatles. Mark comes to the attention of the singer guitarist Brian Donkin from Ovation they are looking for a keyboard player to completet their style of music- similiar to Hawkwind.
Mark purchases his first synthesizers a Korg Micro preset and Korg MS20.
Mark witnesses Tubeway Army on Top of The Pops, this was a life changing moment….Mark had never thought of actually playing in a band!He begins various musical projects with Phil Heeks, on and off for the next 20 years.
Mark discovers his interest in Progressive Rock, listening to Rush, Yes and Genesis and Queen. Also discovering Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman.
From an early age Mark was a big fan of David Bowie (his first single he ever bought was Starman) and Marc Bolan, playing piano to Starman and Deborah tracks, he eventually quit his piano lessons, has his tutor did not understand the music he wanted to play! …. he started to learn how to programme and play other types of keyboards. He learnt the skills of keyboard playing, with life long friend Phil Heeks.
Mark used to hang out at a local keyboard shop in Stoke which was Keith Baddeleys. Keith was a big influence on the keyboard scene embracing old and new styles of Keyboard playing. Mark was also influenced by the guy who worked there Steve Watts, who used to demonstrate the synthesizers, he later went on to join Demon, a heavy rock band who still have a big following in Europe…. ………….. .. oh yes Star Wars was released.
Mark Price was brought up in Stoke, close to the Victoria Ground. He remembered YES playing a concert there, but never fully realised who they where, he would just remember seeing the Yes logo everywhere! Albums his uncle used to play where “Close to the Edge” and “Tales from the Topographic Oceans”, plus The Eagels and Mike Oldfield, these were albums he got used to as background music, it was not until years later that he fully realised the name of the albums, already knowing the melodies. One experience was the discovery of “Dance on a Volcano”, by Genesis. He heard this on a radio show which was broadcast after ‘Sing Something Simple’ on a Sunday night, he new the track and when he began to listen to the Genesis back catalogue, he already new “The Trick of the Tail Album”, plus most of the 50’s and 60’s music, and of course The Beatles – Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band album. Mark used to play his Great Grandmothers Piano in the the front parlour, eventually getting a piano delivered at home. His mother plays piano and his late Grandad could be found playing the piano in local pubs in South Wales (Llannelli).
He began piano lessons at the age of 7.
HIGH SPY – BIOGRAPHY
HIGH SPY are an English based progressive rock band, formed in 2006 by original members Mark Price and Ade Peddie, specializing in keyboard-driven progressive rock with careful and often atmospheric guitar work, including strong vocal melodies and hypnotic rhythms – that should appeal to fans of bands including YES, PINK FLOYD, GENESIS, RUSH, MARILLION, PENDRAGON and I.Q. HIGH SPY have established themselves as one of the most underrated and creative progressive bands in the world today and continue to create and release great music, including a healthy collection of studio and live albums complemented with various DVD releases.
The band’s DEBUT album “Rebirth: The Big Machine”, was released in 2006, which now has an expanded release available with live acoustic bonus tracks. In 2007 and 2008 HIGH SPY performed a series of successful live shows with PALLAS and RPWL – including a headlining slot at the Robin 2 in Bilston – During this time several live limited edition CDs were released (now deleted).
The SECOND album “Head For The Moon” came 3 years later in 2009, which gave them their first European hit, “Rollercoaster”, a tribute to the now dismantled rollercoaster ride, The Corkscrew at Alton Towers, the lyrical content, with its tongue in cheek sense of humour gained new fans surprisingly from countries such as Russia, Italy, Poland, Argentina and Australia. They had great media coverage on the radio across the globe and were even featured on many Progressive Rock Radio shows in the USA and Russia.
A DVD was also released to complement the CD album, featuring alternative mixes from the CD plus including interviews, live footage, animation, special features and different mixes from the CD album. Their full stage show at the time consisted of video backdrops, smoke effects and stage props. Also during their 2010 tour of England they headlined the Victoria Hall in Hanley (Stoke-on-Trent)and recorded and released 2 live DVDs to critical acclaim, including a promo video for their single “Drowning” which featured the contents of a mini movie thriller. They have also been featured on various compilation CDs, included the Classic Rock Society (CRS).
In 2012 – their THIRD album was released “Ignition”, which gained them recognition in the USA and Canada, they again gained airplay from the album, with tracks “Cappuccino”, “Mirror Man” a tribute to Michael Jackson, and “Eyes of The World”, in memory of 911. They even found time to release a promo video for “Cappuccino”.
In the summer of 2015, they released their FOURTH and latest album “Paralysed and Hypnotised”, this gained them a new wave of fans in Germany and Brazil, and also brought them to the attention of a variety of Radio Stations and printed publications. The album also features guest musicians from various styles of music. The ten track album was released in 2015. The album is a thematic album based on relationships, whereby you can feel paralysed and hypnotised within certain relationships, whether married, friends or relations. Some days you feel on top of the world and others you feel there is just no point…. make a wish…. count to three…. come with me!
